Mary E. Hise, Ph.D., R.D., CNSD is Associate Professor, Department of Dietetics and Nutrition, University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. In addition, she is Clinical Director for Nutrition Support Services at the University of Kansas Hospital. Dr. Hise received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition from the University of Texas, Austin, Texas and both her Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees in Nutrition from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas. She is a registered dietitian and has been board certified in nutrition support for more than 16 years.
Dr. Hise is past Chairperson for the American Dietetic Association (ADA) Evidence Analysis Library Workgroup for Critical Illness. She currently serves as Treasurer for the ADA Practice Group, Dietitians in Nutrition Support, and is a Co-chairperson for the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) and Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) joint nutrition course to be offered August 2008. Dr. Hise has also held many leadership roles on various state and national committees that concern nutrition support practice and research.
As a nationally recognized educator, Dr. Hise has earned many honors and awards during her teaching career. In 2006, she received the ADA Excellence in Practice Award for Dietetic Education and the Stata Norton Distinguished Teaching Award from the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Dr. Hise's research focuses on the impact of energy intake and expenditure on clinical outcomes of intensive care unit and long-term parenteral nutrition support patients. She is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health to examine the immuno-modulatory effects of parenteral nutrition after intestinal failure. In addition, she has written and spoken extensively in the area of evidence-based clinical practice.

Michael D. Sanborn, M.S., R.Ph., FASHP serves as Corporate Director of Pharmacy for the Baylor Health Care System in Dallas, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy and his Master of Science degree from the University of Kansas and completed an accredited practice residency with an emphasis in health-system administration at the Kansas University Medical Center. Mr. Sanborn’s current responsibilities include management of pharmacy operations, finances, technology, and clinical services at thirteen hospitals in the Dallas - Fort Worth area, representing nearly 3000 licensed beds and employing over 400 pharmacists and technicians. These extensively automated pharmacies serve as teaching sites for Doctor of Pharmacy Students from the University of Texas, Texas Tech University, and University of Houston Colleges of Pharmacy.
Mr. Sanborn has held many elected and appointed positions at the national, state, and local levels. He is currently serving as a member of the Medication Safety Technical Advisory Panel for the National Quality Forum and is Vice Chair of the Patient Safety and Quality Committee for the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council. He was recently elected to serve as President of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists and has served as Chair of the Council on Pharmacy Practice for the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He has presented and published in a variety of areas, including innovative drug therapies, pharmacy automation, clinical pharmacy practice, medication safety, and practice management.
Todd W. Canada, Pharm.D., BCNSP, FASHP

Todd W. Canada, Pharm.D., BCNSP, FASHP is Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, where he is a member of the intensive care unit (ICU)/critical care service and nutrition support team that participates in the care and education of hospitalized and home patients. In addition, Dr. Canada is the Galveston-Houston regional Internship Director for the University of Texas (UT) College of Pharmacy and a preceptor for UT and the University of Houston College of Pharmacy.
Dr. Canada received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Degree from the University of Oklahoma and completed his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He then completed a specialized residency in Critical Care / Nutrition Support at the University of Tennessee-Memphis. He is board certified in nutrition support.
Dr. Canada currently serves on the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties Nutrition Support Specialty Council and the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition’s Board of Directors. He is an active member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and Society of Critical Care Medicine.
